Learning from morning till night!

Geoff Hardy-Gould explains the benefits of living and learning with your English teacher.

The traditional method of learning English in most speaking countries is to live with a host family and attend a language school every day. In the past few years, however, a new way of learning has been growing in popularity: living and learning in an English teacher’s home. Instead of going to school the student has individual lessons at home on what is known as a “homestay” course.

This type of course is highly attractive as the student is exposed to English from morning to night. Learning takes place in formal lessons, but there are also additional opportunities for language practice at meal times, and while on social activities with the teacher in the afternoon and at weekends. The combination of one-to-one teaching and total immersion means that the students can improve quickly and gain a valuable insight into how English is used naturally. The course can also be a fascinating window onto life and culture in an English speaking country.

What makes a course in a teacher’s home special is the relationship that develops between the student and the teacher. They get to know each other well, which can make the course highly enjoyable as well as being helpful in the learning process. Language mistakes made outside lessons can be corrected immediately or discussed in more detail in a following lesson. The student has the teacher’s undivided attention and will have little or no contact with other students. As a result, they are unlikely to speak their mother tongue for the duration of the course, quite unlike the experience most students have at a language school.

In spite of their higher cost, homestay courses are attractive to wide range of clients, including business professionals, children and retired people. Clients also included people with disabilities, who find that their needs are more easily met in the home of environment. Normally, courses are for one or two students, although some teachers can accommodate larger groups or families.

Most homestay teachers are aged between 40 and 60. They will have a spacious house or apartment and be skilled at welcoming foreign guests into their home.

  1. Last week i read story ” The ultimate Sacrifice ” to writer Agatha Gristi one of the most writers the English literature .
“Death Song” and “Crime In The Desert” are two of this great works , in fact all your stories favorite because it’s very exciting and dynamics .
The ultimate Sacrifice is the story of one crime complex ,happened after world war second . where someone killed of large family a way that isn’t ordinary . he started a group of investigators in the investigation to reach the criminal , finally they found that the victim’s granddaugther is a criminal , after they caved in long reach , where her aunt is alone person to know a criminal but she didn’t tell anyone the new until the end , but hero the story found this fact in a letter written by her aunt . While granddaugther died in a accident with her aunt.
The author use many styles and themes like comparison, allegory, metaphor, personification and the hyperbole. In my view this story is fantastic , marvellous and wonderful …. for that i recommend my friends to read this story or another story to Agatha especially .

  3. Last summer, I read a great novel named “Harry Potter” by the well known british writer : J.K.Rowling, who became very famous after his actual work on ‘Harry Potter saga’.
The story is about Harry Potter, a young boy who discovered his secret power as a wizard. His life changed when he went to a big witch and wizardschool named Hogwarts, there, he will meet his two friends Ron and Hermione who will stay with him until the very end, surpassing the obstacles and difficulties of their fantasy world together.
The writter used many different styles and themes in her saga, as comparison, metaphor, personification and many others…
I really liked the story, it’s fantastic and breathtking, I just couldn’t stop myself from being aspired in the fantasy world, this is why, I strongly advice all my friends and classmates to read it, they will certainly like it much more that I did.

  10. In all, Aguata Christi wrote over 66 novels, numerous short stories and screenplays, and a series of romantic novels using the pen name Mary Westmacott. Several of her works were made into successful feature films, the most notable being “MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS”, the one that i read last summer among many other stories like “THE TRAIN OF 16H50″and “THE MURDER OF ROGER ROCKOYD”.
Travelling on the Orient Express, Poirot is approached by a desperate American named Ratchett. Afraid that someone plans to kill him, Ratchett asks Poirot for help. Sadly the very next day Ratchett’s worst fears become reality, when he is found dead in his cabin, a victim of multiple stab wounds. With nothing but a scrap of paper to go on, Poirot must piece together Ratchett’s identity before he can establish which of his fellow passengers murdered him.”MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS” is filled with intriguing characters, shady happenings, and questionable alibi’s. All of this leads up to a superior ending, made possible by the brilliant detective, Hercule Poirot. ”
Her descriptions are so cursory they essentially allow our imaginations to roam, and everyone will have a different mental image of scenery and events. The characters are very much of their era, and very quaint.
If you want a true puzzle, if you love Christie, or even if not, this is essential reading. The clues are all there for the reader, but if you piece them together and breach Christies twist;I term it as such, because all her novels essentially contain a twist, that if you can see through it the story falls into place, you will adore this book.
